Lonely Planet Top Pick

"Food porn is an apt description for the stunning array of dishes on offer here in both the deli case and at the buffet. Luscious salads, salmon, beautiful sandwiches and, yes, tarts that give pastry a good name."

- Lonely Planet Guide

Michelle and Fintan Hyland's company is really putting on the style these days.  Breads, bakes, cakes and tarts - and don't miss their all butter croissants  - all have a confident style and swagger which show how much this company has grown and gotten better.  They were always good bakers but it is the patisserie-level, no short-cuts, finish that today pulls them ahead of the posse and makes GTC's savoury and sweet baking a real fixture of the city.  The shop is also a good lunch option for a drink and a freshly made sandwich.

Fintan and Michelle Hyland have done it again — they have come up with what is, I believe, a winning formula [...] Top marks for presentation and top marks for taste and portion size. [...] Both desserts were 10/10, as was all of the meal throughout the evening

What our Customers are Saying About Us

All I can say is I was blown away from start to finish...Each course was made lovingly with amazing attention to detail. Good, well-knowledged advice was given on wine, which for once was not overpriced. The service was impeccable, one of those places where it is easy to catch their eye but they're not in-your-face and intrusive. One of, if not THE best meal I have ever eaten, here or abroad.

Great selection of sandwiches and salads.. But oh the cakes! Swoon.....

The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, and the beautifully presented food tasted even better than it looked... Fantastic value for a wonderful evening out.

Whether it be a coffee on the go, a salad for lunch or a tart for a special occasion their shops have it all... We have also been to the restaurant in Salthill. The food is top notch and at an affordable price, its an experience not to be missed.

I have brought my niece and nephew there a few times (2 & 4 years) so it is really accommodating to children - they are particularly fond of the scones and of course the gingerbread men! They definitely have something for everyone.

The food, service & attention to detail has been excellent. In fact the food has been beyond value for money. I'm a fish eating veggie & there is always loads to chose from.

Everything we tasted at the Gourmet Tart Company was delicious! Don't leave without grabbing some macaroons and other yummy bites from the bakery.

You have to eat here at least once while staying in the Galway area. The food and service is wonderful.

I love their simple yet tasty menu and their coffee, which beats anything you'll find in Dublin. Also try one of their cakes, such as the mouth-watering triple chocolate mousse.

Abandon hope all ye low-carbers who enter here. After that, where to start? To pick up something sweet or savoury? A moist chicken, stuffing and coleslaw sandwich, or a crayfish and rocket one? A little quiche? Or straight onto the chocolate, walnut and amaretto tart, followed by a raspberry meringue? It's a tough decision but we're not complaining. The larger cakes are outstanding value and the salad bar has less-spotted varieties like jewelled couscous and roast beetroot.

Eveleen and Pamela have handpicked each business on the itinerary to ensure visitors meet producers who are passionate about the quality of their wares, as well as being available to talk to the groups. And the tour isn't confined to the rustic market. We also call in at the Gourmet Tart, a very smart contemporary shop selling fine patisseries.
